Thanks for checking in on the weather, we'll offer our own opinion of the weather here on the Kenai River as often as we can:
October 26, 2006--"Winter is Here!"
The first snow has arrived, just barely enough for the boys to get their sleds out! More snow is on the way and soon summer will be a fading memory as we get geared up for cross country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice skating, hockey, ice fishing, dog sledding, skijouring and other fun winter activities in Alaska!"
October, 2006--"Fall for the Kenai"
Things are cooling down fast. As you can see, we've had a busy time between December and now, no summer weather pics for you posted, at least not yet...we might still ad some. Check out the Fishing Report pages for good fishing pics though! Here's what it looks like around these parts right now!
December, 2005--Fresh Snow!
"...the whole family enjoys a Christmas Eve ski around the riverfront, after 8 inches of fresh powdery snow fell yesterday! Merry Christmas from Alaska! Temps have been mild so far this winter, ranging from the teens to upper twenties, perfect for cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, sledding, and outdoor hockey!"
September, 2005--Fish on Fall...
"...Jilli shows her Silvery catch on a fall background. Mild weather and good Silver fishing through October make for long, enjoyable fall seasons on the Kenai River."
July, 2005--Fish, Fish, Fish...
"...there's a whole lot of fishing going on! Late evening in July, the girls enjoy some Sockeye Salmon fishing on the shore. With ample daylight and mild weather, you can fish all day & night just about."
June, 2005--Ahhh, Summer Days are Here...
"...Alli lounges in the hammock by the riverside on a long June summer day. This photo could have been taken at 5:00am or 11:00pm and you wouldn't see any difference in daylight! Boy those June days are long in Alaska....nearly 20 hours of full daylight."
April 10, 2005--Sunsets like Summer...
"...sunset this evening made the river look like a summer's eve, just gorgeous out there. If you're coming this summer, you can look forward to spectacular sunsets like this...right from the riverfront while you fish or relax by the fire."
March 27, 2005--Easter Greetings from the Boys!
"...with the Kenai River flowing for the first time this year in the background, the boys are hunting for Easter Eggs along the shore, with patches of snow, but warm sunny skies and long days of daylight again. This year the boys did well to avoid the "chocolate eggs" deposited in our yard by the local moose population!"
March 26, 2005--The River is melting!
"...in less than 24 hours we should see the river flowing again, after three months of being frozen solid! Just two days ago a full grown cow moose was seen walking down the middle of the river in front of Kenai Riverfront, but this most recent blast of warm spring air, coupled with long hours of daylight, has melted the river's ice cap fast!"
February, 2005---Snowy Days
"...snow, snow, and more snow! It's been a great winter, the snowiest we've seen in years, and everyone's enjoying it very much! Skiing, sledding, snowmobiling, ice skating, ice fishing, and even a few jumps in the snow from the sauna have been the winter routine around these parts. The river has been frozen for a couple months now and the moose are wandering freely back and forth to the island. The moose are also showing up almost daily to munch on the lower branches along the river. The ski trail around Kenai Riverfront has been in excellent shape and the kids are all getting good at skiing. Hope its nice and wintery in your neck of the woods too!"
January, 2005---Happy New Year
"...winter moves on, cold and slow. It's 10 degrees right now, but a week ago it was raining and in the 40's, which was frustrating as we saw some of our snow base sinking. We had nice snow at the end of the year, and now that its cold again we're enjoying winter. The river has come to a frozen halt twice now, reopening last week when it rained, but it stopped again this morning (1/9/05). We're looking forward to more cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and frolicking in the snow!"
September 25, 2004---Here Comes the Snow!
"...the season is changing for sure now! With trees glowing of yellow & red, the white stuff showed no mercy and forced more than half the leaves to the ground today. Heavy, wet snow, but just enough to cover the ground briefly before heavy rain soaked the cold ground. The kids loved it, and we'll be glad to see it come, but not till we're ready on all fronts! We're still catching Silvers afterall, and it would be nice to enjoy the rest of fall before we get buried in snow! Book your cross-country skiing getaway to Soldotna soon and we'll see you at Kenai Riverfront this winter!"
June 1, 2004---The Days are Long, the Sun is Strong!
"...the long days of early summer are here and the Kenai River has never been more beautiful! We took this picture just upriver from Kenai Riverfront, showing the Island across from us and the back channel of the Kenai River. The Rainbows & Dollies were jumping like crazy after a new hatch as we were fishing this evening up till midnight. Time on this photo was approximately 12:15 am. To enjoy a sunset on the Kenai call us soon & See you at Kenai Riverfront!"
May 15, 2004---Summer is Coming!
"...temps are warming nicely into the 60's on sunny days, but more importantly staying above 40 at night, so we're getting some planting done and looking forward to summer! The trees are all budding nicely and with a little rain we'll burst into summer green any day now. Here's a picture of Alli and her tree that she planted in the front yard! See you soon at Kenai Riverfront!"
